About old west photos

Real photographs from the American frontier were tintypes and cabinet cards, made in small studios between the 1860s and the 1890s. Exposures took several seconds, so people sat still and rarely smiled, which is why old western photos look so serious. The warm brown tone comes from the albumen and sepia prints of the time.

The old time photo studios in tourist towns copied that look with costume racks and a saloon set. This studio does the same online: a wild west photoshoot in a saloon, with a sheriff’s office, a poker table and the boardwalk outside, from the selfies you already have.

Our set was rebuilt from public-domain photographs of real saloons from the 1880s and 1890s: the patterned wallpaper, pressed tin ceiling, carved back bar and mounted elk head all come from them.

FAQ

What do I get?+

7 photos in landscape 3:2, one in each set of our Old West studio. Everyone you add is in all 7, in the same outfits. The first one is your free preview. Add seven 5-second videos for $1 at 480p or $2 at 720p; videos are cropped to 16:9.

Will my photos have a watermark or logo?+

No. Your photos come clean, with no watermark, logo or studio stamp. The small stamp is only on our example photos, and the PREVIEW label is only on the free preview.

How many people can be in the photos?+

From one to 20, a big extended family included. Send one selfie per person or pet, and everyone appears in all 7 photos. The price goes by group size: 1 to 4 $5.90, 5 to 8 $7.90, 9 to 14 $10.90, 15 to 20 $12.90.

Can everyone send a selfie from a different place?+

Yes. Everyone sends their own selfie, so family in different cities can join. We put everyone together in all 7 photos; you do not need a group photo.

Can I print them?+

Yes. The photos are 2K in landscape 3:2, about 2,000 pixels wide, enough for 4×6 or 5×7 prints and holiday cards. Download them and use any print shop.

Can I use the photos?+

Yes, they are yours for personal use: holiday cards, prints, profile pictures and posts.

What happens to our photos?+

Your uploads are deleted after 7 days and the finished photos and videos after 30 days, so download the ones you want to keep. We do not use your photos to train models. Evolink receives your photos and the studio set to make your photos; if you add videos, KeelRouter passes the finished photos to fal to animate them.

When is this not the right choice?+

When you have more than 20 people or pets in one photo, when you want to edit a group photo you already have, or when you need a real portrait sitting for an official document.

Is this like an old time photo studio?+

Yes, without the trip: the saloon set, the costumes and the sepia print of an old time photo, made from your own photos. The set is redrawn from real 1870s to 1890s saloon photographs.

What costumes do we wear?+

Cowboy and sheriff outfits with wide-brim hats and vests for men, high-collared bustle dresses or saloon dresses for women, and a tiny bandana and cowboy hat for pets. You do not need to dress up for your selfie.

Why does nobody smile in old western photos?+

Exposures took several seconds, so people held a still, serious face. The first photo of your set copies that tintype pose; the others are more playful, from a poker game to a jail cell.

How much does it cost?+

$5.90 or 59 credits. You pay once for one set of 7 photos, with no account or subscription. With an account you can pay in credits instead.
